My husband and I were in Guatemala in June of '06. The exact scenario you described happened to me and my husband, I mean exact. It wasn't our bag that was stolen, but a guy we met along the way. Everything from telling us to lay down in our seats, to the part where we were to put our bags on the top rack. We stopped, someone distracted us through the window and asked us if we were going to San Pedro or Pana. We too were traveling from Guatemala City to Pana. Guatemala city is the only place I felt completely unsafe. We go back on the 26th of this month and unfortunatly our plane arrives in Guate City at 930 pm. I want to make sure we get a shuttle from the airport to out destination, pronto!
